Outdoor Humanist Summer Wedding | Sussex

About time I shared one of those weddings we’re all missing right now, one with loads of people!

Vicky and Dan got their friends and family together at Northease Manor in Sussex last year for a laid back day with an outdoor, humanist ceremony, pompom confetti, a vegan barbecue, a vegan doughnut wedding cake (be still my vegan heart!) and quite a lot of tequila (I think they may have drunk the bar dry…).

We started at Vicky and Dan’s flat in Lewes where her dad was still updating his wedding speech (it was worth it, because it was a corker, not a dry eye in the house!) and her bridesmaids made the most of the breakfast spread. I’m sure they’ll thank me for that photo…

Vicky’s sister helped her get in to her gorgeous Willow by Watters embroidered, tulle dress (it had pockets!) and then I took some images specially requested by Vicky, of her holding a picture of her late mum in her own wedding dress on her wedding day. Although Vicky’s mum couldn’t be there, she was in photos that Vicky and Dan had hung in the trees and beautiful memories of her were woven in to all the speeches. I say it all the time, but it really is such privilege to share in these wonderfully human moments.

The unplugged ceremony was outside in the grounds of Northease Manor on a GORGEOUS Summer’s day. Vicky walked down a carpeted aisle towards Dan and a geometric wedding arch by Lo and Behold Bespoke. The ceremony was conducted by Dan’s best man. I love when a friend conducts the ceremony! It’s always so personal (and usually hilarious).

The wedding breakfast was in what is usually the school hall. The light in there was fantastic and I’m in love with the way all the tables are laid out and dressed. Vicky is a graphic designer and wedding stationer so she designed all her own invites, place names and seating chart (yes, all the tables are named after Star Trek ships). The dried flowers in those gorgeous vintage glass bottles were provided by Webb and Farrer who also designed Vicky’s and the bridesmaids’ bouquets. Glazed Donuts provided the epic vegan donut tower!

After some tears and laughter during the speeches it was time for tequila, a couple of rounds of ninja (which I photographed but also joined in because, of course!) and Vicky and Dan’s first dance surrounded by their friends and family. I think I speak for everyone when I say Covid can shove off already and give us back days like these!
